MEMORANDUM
DATE: July 2, 1998
TO: Storm Water Task Force
FROM: Michael Mornson, City Manager
ITEM: UPDATE ON FLOOD MITIGATION PROJECTS
I feel it is important to provide each of you with an update on the WSB & Associates plan for
flood mitigation.
First, the good news. The City did receive $1 million from the DNR on Friday, June 26,
1998, to assist in costs for the projects. The City may bond for their share later this year,
depending on how far we get with some of the projects. The second million will be available
after we spend the first million and match it. The City still hasn't heard officially from FEMA
on the $750,000. The DNR is planning to officially present an enlarged million dollar check
to the Council, possibly at the July 28 meeting.
Following are the dates that WSB will present updates to the City Council:
Tuesday, 7:00 PM, July 28
WSB will present an update on the grant program and a discussion on a street
reconstruction plan for 1999 in the 29`h Avenue NE area. A discussion of the removal
of the Lockrem home may also take place that evening.
Wednesday. PMWednesday. 7:00 Aust 1212
Neighborhood meeting with property owners concerned with problem area 5, Harding
Street.
I feel it is important that as many of the Task.Force members as possible attend the July 28 and
August 12 meetings, especially the meeting on August 12. The City-has received a large
number of calls from persons in the Harding neighborhood. We have been informed that a
.petition is being circulated requesting the City to table everything relating to flood mitigation
projects until more study on other options is explored.
The City's first Parks Commission meeting is scheduled for July 21 at 8:00 PM,and the second
meeting is August 10 at 7:00 PM. Todd Hubmer of WSB will be present to talk to the new
Commission about Central and Silver Point Parks plans.
If you have questions on any of these matters, please feel free to contact me at 789-8881.
