Parks Commission Meeting Minutes <br /> December 14, 1998 <br /> Page 3 <br /> 1 Hubmer stated a landscaping plan for the Silver Point Park project will be presented at the <br /> 2 Commission's January 11, 1999 meeting. <br /> .3 <br /> 4 Wolff stated the playground equipment subcommittee might complete a wishlist immediately if <br /> 5 equipment must be ordered by March 1999. <br /> 6 VI. DISCUSS WATER TOWER PARK AND OVERALL CENTRAL PARK PLAN. <br /> 7 Jindra stated the playground equipment subcommittee had studied different types of equipment <br /> 8 and asked for an update. Roadfeldt stated the subcommittee had reviewed all the available <br /> 9 information, and agreed to focus on equipment which appeals to a broad range of ages and <br /> 10 encourages physical activity and interaction. She added they decided against wood and colors <br /> 11 that stand out. <br /> 12 <br /> 13 Wolff stated a deckless play area is relatively inexpensive and has many activities for children. <br /> 14 She added deck`systems are less cost effective and provide secluded areas for teenagers to gather <br /> 15 and smoke. Kosciolek stated roofs should be.limited to areas for small children. <br /> 16 <br /> 17 Jindra presented a video from Miracle Recreation which featured a community-built playground <br /> 18 area. She stated the idea of involving the community in raising funds for and building in.the area <br /> 19 is a good one as it promotes a feeling of ownership which might be something to consider.. She <br /> 0 added the City has worked with Miracle Recreation on previous projects. <br /> 21 <br /> 22 Jindra stated the subcommittee will meet again and narrow their recommendations to 3 vendors <br /> 23 who will be invited to present their products to the Commission. <br /> 24 <br /> 25 Wolff asked whether a site plan had been completed. Public Works Director Jay Hartman stated <br /> 26 the plan would be completed by the end of the week. Jindra added the plan would be available at <br /> 27 the Commission's January 11, 1999 meeting. <br /> 28 VII. NEXT PARKS COMMISSION MEETING (JANUARY 11, 1998)AND DISCUSS <br /> 29 AGENDA ITEMS FOR THAT MEETING. <br /> 30 Jindra stated the Commission's next meeting could include updates on Silver Point and Central <br /> 31 Parks,as well as a discussion of the potential sale of the Salvation Army camp and developments <br /> 32 with regard to its possible purchase. <br /> 33 VII. REPORTS. <br /> 34 Jindra stressed the importance of the participation of members from the Commission's 3 non- <br /> 35 voting organizations: Sports Boosters, Community Services, and the School Board. She <br /> 36 proposed the implementation of a new policy for reports from the 3 members to update the <br /> 37 Commission monthly on issues which might affect parks planning. <br /> 38 <br />
