Memorandum
To: St.Anthnony Planning Commissioners
CC: Sue Henry
From: Doug Bergstrom,Chair Cyz
Date: 11/16/00
Re: Televised Meetings
I recently viewed the tape of our October meeting to see how our meetings came across to viewers.
After viewing the tape, I would like to make the following suggestions to the commission to help us
be more viewer-friendly and to shape our image a bit:
1. Use of microphones: Be aware that the microphones pick up voices best when the speaker is
within about 6 inches of the microphone. Please lean forward in your chair and speak into the
microphone so that viewers can better hear commissioner's comments and questions.
2. Storage of outerwear: In the past,we have had no place to store coats other than the back of
our chairs or the floor, neither of which is desirable. I talked about this with Mike Mornson, and he
suggested that we store our coats etc. in the storage area near the video room. Sue Henry will get us
access to this room prior to our meetings.
3. Attire: I believe that our attire should reflect our respect for citizens and meeting attendees.
For televised meetings,I think coat and ties are appropriate(and the equivalent for women),and that
business casual is appropriate for non-televised meetings(work sessions,etc.). I have also asked Sue
to find a way to be able to control the temperature in the room during the meetings, which, for some
reason, has been an unattainable goal in the past.
If you have any questions,or have other ideas along these lines, please let Sue or me know. Thank you
for your cooperation in presenting the Planning Commission and our work in the clearest and best way
possible.
E _
