1 CITY OF ST. ANTHONY <br /> • 2 PARKS COMMISSION NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING MINUTES <br /> 3 December 11,2000 <br /> 4 .6:30 p.m. <br /> 5 I. CALL TO ORDER. <br /> 6 Chair Jindra called the meeting to order at 6:40 p.m. and welcomed everyone in attendance. <br /> 7 II. ROLL CALL. <br /> 8 Present: Chair Carol Jindra, Commissioners Dan Ganley, Julie Gebhardt, <br /> 9 Colleen Hallada, Jan Jenson,Doug Koehntop and George Wagner <br /> 10 Absent: None. <br /> 11 Also Present: Public Works Director Jay Hartman, Representative from Commu- <br /> 12 nity Services Diane Skrivseth; Representative from Sports <br /> 13 Boosters George Zurbey. <br /> 14 III. NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING REGARDING CENTRAL PARK. <br /> 15 Bob Kost reviewed the layout of Central Park.with the Park Commissioners and neighborhood <br /> 16 members present. He indicated the north portion of the park was up for discussion as to the <br /> 17 berming and landscaping between the park and residential areas. Mr. Kost noted the shelter on <br /> 18 the north end of the park may need renovation to allow it to be used as a meeting facility and/or <br /> 19 warming house. <br /> 20 Mr. Kost reviewed the Central Park connection to the Maplewood extension. He noted additional <br /> 21 landscaping and plantings would be needed in this area to connect the two areas. Mr. Kost asked <br /> 22 for comments from the neighbors. <br /> 23 Residents expressed concerns as follows: <br /> 24 •. asked if there would be parking on both sides of the street near the Maplewood extension.. She <br /> 25 noted it was extremely dangerous for children-crossing the street and running to ball games. She <br /> 26 added that she felt the shelter was extremely far-from the hockey rink to be used as a warming <br /> 27 house for children. She added if it were moved closer,the original shelter site could be used for <br /> 28 parking. <br /> 29 • with a two story home over looking the park, a resident asked that the sledding hill be preserved <br /> 30 for the children as it gets numerous visitors and use. He noted he sees very few children using <br /> 31 the free skating rink and asked if others felt the same. Several neighbors indicated they do see <br /> • 32 the skating rink used a great deal. He continued by stating he doesn't like the look of the <br /> 33 numerous chain link fences surrounding the ballfields. <br />
