Sign Subcommittee Meeting Summary—March 14,2001
The sign subcommittee met to discuss issues with regard to placing a monument sign
with electronic capabilities near the community center. Two possible locations were
identified. The first location is located west of the tennis courts and oast of the holding
pond. The second location is north of the community center parking lot and south of the
Central Park parking lot on the island that separates them. The subcommittee
recommends the placement of the sign by the tennis courts due to the following reasons:
• The south location provides the space to further enhance the look of the sign by
incorporating a landscaping plan that could include a retaining wall, flowers, and
shrubs. The confined space at the north site will likely limit enhancements such as
these.
• This site will allow for a larger sign than the north location.
• This site makes good use of a piece of land that otherwise has limited possibilities.
• The site seems to provide for a better location that identifies not only city hall, but the
entire campus the city manages, such as Water Tower Park, Central Park, the
Community Center,public services, etc.
The committee suggests the city hire a consultant t6provide input with regard'to updating
of the sign portion of the code. Some issues within the code that need to be addressed
include:
• Defining electronic signs, expanding their use, and establishing standards for
maintenance and operation
• Eliminating the use of temporary signs
• Incorporate design standards for future signs
