I SCITY OF ST. ANTHONY <br /> 2 CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING MINUTES <br /> 3 March 27, 2001 <br /> 4 I. CALL TO ORDER. <br /> 5 Mayor.Cavanaugh called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. <br /> 6 H. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE. <br /> 7 Mayor Cavanaugh invited the Council and audience to join in the Pledge of Allegiance. <br /> 8 M. ROLL CALL. <br /> 9 Councilmembers present: Mayor Cavanaugh; Councilmembers Sparks, Thuesen, Horst and <br /> 10 Hodson. <br /> 11 Councilmembers absent: None. <br /> 12 Also present: City Manager Michael Momson; City Attorney Jerome Gilligan. <br /> 13 IV. APPROVAL OF MARCH 27,2001 CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING AGENDA. <br /> 14 Motion by Hodson to approve the March 27, 2001 City Council Regular Meeting Agenda. <br /> 15 Motion carried unanimously. <br /> 16 V. PROCLAMATIONS AND RECOGNITIONS. <br /> 17 A. Proclamation Declaring April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. <br /> 18 Mayor Cavanaugh asked that Councilmember Sparks read in full a Proclamation declaring April <br /> 19 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in the City of St Anthony. <br /> 20 Councilmember Sparks explained that St. Anthony has been asked to participate in, and support, <br /> 21 this cause. She acknowledged that, fortunately, child abuse is not a large issue in the City of St. <br /> 22 Anthony. <br /> 23 Motion by Sparks to adopt a Proclamation Declaring April as child Abuse Prevention Month. <br /> 24 Motion carried unanimously. <br /> 25 B. Fire Department Presentation. <br /> 26 Mayor Cavanaugh noted the attendance of Fire Chief Hewitt, and the entire Fire Department who <br /> 27 were present to model their new uniforms and apparatus,which were funded by the City. Fire <br /> 28 Chief Hewitt expressed his deep appreciation to the City Council. <br /> 29 Fire Chief Hewitt referred to the new mandate regarding their apparatus,which states that <br /> 30 firefighter gear be replaced every three to five years,depending on the use that it has. He stated <br /> 31 that some of their former gear was ten to twelve years old. Fire Chief Hewitt added that in <br /> 32 addition to the uniforms,they were in need of new SCBAs(self-contained breathing apparatus). <br /> 33 He noted that the old SCBAs weighed thirty six pounds,while the new ones weigh about <br /> 34 nineteen pounds,which means there is significantly less stress placed on the firefighters, <br /> 35 specifically their hearts. Fire Chief Hewitt noted that the house fire reaches 960 degrees <br />
