COMMUNICATION WITH CITY COUNCIL <br /> 7 6.1 Designate a Planning; Commission member to the June 22, 2004 City Council Meeting_ <br /> 8 <br /> 9 Chair Stromgren stated that Commissioner Tillman would attend the City Council meeting on <br /> 10 June 22, 2004. <br /> 11 <br /> 12 VII. PUBLIC BEARING. <br /> 13 <br /> 14 7.1 Hennepin County— St. Anthony Library/St. Anthony Shopping Center, 2941 Pentagon <br /> 15 Drive, Amend Comprehensive Sign Plan. <br /> 16 <br /> 17 Chair Stromgren opened the public hearing at 7:06 p.m. <br /> 18 <br /> .19 Ms. Hall stated that the Hennepin County/St. Anthony Community Library is requesting an <br /> 20 amendment to the Comprehensive Sign Plan at the St. Anthony Shopping Center to allow for <br /> 21 sign colors that are not included within the existing Shopping Center sign criteria. She noted that <br /> 22 the proposed colors and signage, have been reviewed and approved by the property owner, Al <br /> 23 Esther. She indicated that the logo for the Hennepin County Library system has been redefined <br /> 24 adding that they would like to incorporate the changes to have the updated look. She provided <br /> 25 the Commission with an overview of the proposed sign plan noting that Richard Lang from <br /> 26 Visual Communications is present to answer any questions. <br /> 27 <br /> 28 Richard Lang, 2743 Toledo Avenue South, St. Louis Park, stated that he has been working with <br /> 29 Hennepin County and the St. Anthony Library to redesign the signage for St. Anthony. He <br /> 30 reviewed the proposal noting that the colors are not that highly unusual stating that they are <br /> 31 looking to give the Library a more updated appearance. He noted that the most interesting part <br /> 32 of the signage is the lettering stating that the letters would have a deep plum coloring during the <br /> 33 day and light up as white in the evening. He provided the Commission with an example of the <br /> 34 materials and reviewed how the signage would be made noting that it is similar to what is used <br /> 35 on buses. He stated that the change would provide the Library with a very updated look and <br /> 36 would keep it in context with what is being done in the rest of the Shopping Center area. <br /> 37 <br /> 38 Chair Stromgren clarified that the proposed signage would comply with the current standards. <br /> 39 Mr. Lang confirmed that it would. <br /> 40 <br /> 41 Chair Stromgren noted that the size of the letter is slightly smaller and asked for clarification. <br /> 42 Mr. Lang confirmed stating that it is an overall change in the lettering and reviewed with the <br /> 43 Commission. He explained that the letters have to be sized in a specific way to avoid damage to <br /> 44 the letters in the area where they would be hung. <br /> 45 <br />
