MEMORANDUM
DATE: 07/12/04 MEETING DATE: 07/20/04
TO: Chair Stromgren & Planning Commission embers
FROM: Susan M.H. Hall, Assistant City Manager
SUBJECT: Silverwood Sign Plan
Requested Action:
Review the sign plan recently submitted to the City by the Three River Park-District for
Silverwood, located at County Road E and Silver Lake Road. On July 20, the Planning
Commission will hold a concept review on the plan. On August 17, the Planning
Commission will hold a public hearing, with the request going to the City Council on
August 24.
Background:
The Three Rivers Park District is gearing up to open walking trails on the former
Salvation Army Camp Site, now called Silverwood, in mid September. The District staff
is gearing up for this and has submitted a signage plan (see attached). They would like
to install the signs within the next couple of months.
Three types of signs are proposed for the site: (1) boundary signs; (2) directional signs;
and (3) Temporary Park Entrance sign. All of the signs fit under the sign ordinance, with
the exception of the directional signs proposed. The maximum size for a directional sign
is 5 square feet; the proposed directional sign measures 8 square feet; thus, a variance
of 3 square feet for each sign is necessary. One of the proposed directional signs is
shown north of County Road E in the City of New Brighton. That sign would need New
Brighton's approval.
Attachments:
• Letter from Three Rivers Park District
• Sign Plan
