+ -3- <br /> Mr. Johnson was present and indicated he intends to replace the exist- <br /> ing building sign with a permanent monument-type brick identification <br /> of the townhomes .near the front entrance. Mr. Bjorklund told the <br /> Council this information satisfies the concern of the Commission <br /> regarding the signage permitted under the Hedlund PUD because when <br /> that sign is erected, the signage for the hairstyling shop to the <br /> south will have to be removed in accordance with the agreement signed <br /> by the owner when Craig & Co. took over that property_. He asked that <br /> it be noted that all references to this signage had always been as <br /> "temporary" . <br /> As noted in the minutes , Mr. Bjorklund will resign as Chairman of the <br /> Commission after two years of service in that position . However , he <br /> plans to remain on the Commission, if so appointed. - Copies of his <br /> annual assessment of the Committee ' s activities for 1981 had been <br /> distributed and Mr. Bjorklund discussed some of the highlights with <br /> the Council . He requested that all -current Commission members be <br /> reappointed and the vacancy created by Mr. Enrooth' s election to the <br /> Council be filled as soon as possible , suggesting the City might <br /> benefit from representation from the northeast quadrant where so many <br /> residents live in apartments , townhouses or condominiums . The Plan- <br /> ning Commission- representative said staff support has been excellent <br /> and he hopes those services won' t be included in any budget cuts for <br /> the City . Since the Commission members receive no monetary compensa- <br /> tion, 'the Council will attempt to keep those services at their exist- <br /> ing levels , the Mayor assured him and he then inquired as to the <br /> progress the Commission is making in developing. the new sign ordinance. <br /> • Staff is in the process of revising that document according to changes <br /> suggested by the City Attorney and the Commission will complete its <br /> review as soon as possible and refer the ordinance to the Council. for <br /> final approval, Mr. Bjorklund said. <br /> The Planning Commission representative reported numerous inquiries <br /> from residents related to the water supply discoloration and failure <br /> of the blinking school crossing sign near Wilshire School and was <br /> told the Public Works Director had addressed the water problem in his <br /> January 5th memorandum to Mr. Childs which was distributed to the <br /> Council and staff will investigate the problems with the sign. The <br /> Manager said he intends. letting the residents know the discoloration <br /> poses no health hazard through the next Newsletter. <br /> Jim Schwartz , who writes for the Bulletin , was requested to publicize <br /> the vacancy on the Planning Commission for which applications will be <br /> taken until February 5th . Staff was also requested to inform by <br /> letter persons who had previously indicated an interest in serving on <br /> the Commission. Candidates will be interviewed by the Council during <br /> their February 9th meeting, and at a special work session , if necessary , <br /> so appointments can be made prior to the Commission' s February 16th <br /> meeting. <br /> Motion by Councilman Marks and seconded by Councilman Enrooth to <br /> reappoint all members currently serving on the Planning Commission <br /> to serve , as they have requested, on that body during 1982 . <br /> • Motion. carried unanimously. <br />
