The Public Works Director o commented he is surprised there have not been more requests of this nature considering the number of burglaries of garages on alleys . Motion by Councilman Ranallo and seconded by Councilman Letourneau to authorize the installation of a street light . in the alley mid-block between 2524 27th Avenue N.E., and .2600 Pahl Avenue N.E. , as requested by residents on both sides of the streets . Motion carried unanimously. Motion by Councilman Marks and -seconded by Councilman Enrooth to approve the verifiedclaims listed in .the January 25 , 1983 Council agenda. Motion carried unanimously. The Mayor and Judy Makowske, Chairman of the .Planning Commission, reported the meeting sponsored by COACT scheduled for January 27th at the Northeast Junior High where -.problems from hazardous and in- dustrial waste disposal would be discussed. Mrs . P4akowske agreed to report back to the Council if the Mayor and other Council members are unable to attend the hearing. Councilman Enrooth expressed his displeasure with the. manner in which • he perceives the "Council- was railroaded with artificial time con- �- straints" to make appointments to the Planning Commission without an opportunity oftalking the selections over among themselves . If, as Councilman Ranallo -says , this was the same procedure followed in the past, the Councilman believes he should have been advised as much before the interviews were conducted. The strategy for .lobbying: H.U.D. officials to reconsider funding the proposed senior housing in the Kenzie Terrace area-while the Council members are in Washington, D.C. , for the National Conference of Cities was discussed. The Mayor r.eported .he has invited all four of the City 's congressional representatives to accompany the City officials to the meetings . Councilman Marks indicated he had spoken to Congress- man Sabo's staff regarding the matter. Mr. Krier agreed to put to- gether a presentation which might be helpful in presenting the City' s case to H.U..D. and he suggested it might be also helpful to make personal contacts with the regional .H.U.D.. office in Chicagoand with the new head of the Minneapolis H.U.D. office. Councilman Marks noted the increase in number of home burglaries in the Police Department Report for. December and suggested it might be a good time for the Council to sit down with the Police Chief and members of his department - to get a better understanding of some of the problems they are confronted with and at the same time publicly acknowledge instances of outstanding performance by some members of the force.
