CITY OF ST. ANTHONY
ADDENDUM TO COUNCIL MINUTES
August 13, 1985
Mayor Pro Tem Ranal-lo reported he had been one of many from St. Anthony who
had attended the Minnesota Coalition for Public Education awards dinner August 8th
where Mayor Sundland had been presented with a plaque designating him as the
Coalition's choice for the 1985 Friend of. Education award. The Mayor Pro Tem
said Mayor Sundland had been the recipient of another plaque later that evening
which had- been presented to him by Commissioner Sam Sivanich who told him he
was being recognized in this manner because "Not only have you built up such
a close relationship with your school district, but you have also built up a
tremendous relationship with the Hennepin County Commissioners which has brought
St. Anthony much closer to the Commissioners than in the past".
He perceived there was certainly a great deal of recognition due the Mayor for
his service to the City as well , Mayor Pro Tem Ranallo said, and he added that,
although discussions between the Mayor. and.other Councilmembers had on occasion
been from differing perspectives, he was certain all the other Councilmembers
agreed with him that "the outstanding service Bob Sundland had provided the
City of St. Anthony over the years" deserved acknowledgement at this time.
• Councilmember Makowske agreed that the Mayor had always provided strong and
constructive leadership and said she perceived his introduction of the Council-
members to other governmental agencies had served to benefit the community as
a whole.
Councilmember Enrooth agreed that the current Mayor's level of involvement had
been the highest of any he could recall . Councilmember Marks agreed that,
although other mayors had demonstrated different strengths, Mayor Sundland's
strong public relations work had certai-nly made St. Anthony a very visible City.
Plans were made to present a plaque bearing these sentiments to the Mayor at the
next Council meeting.
