• 1 Mayor Sundland indicated that with the tight budget the City was <br /> 2 operating under, he had wanted to consult the other Councilmembers <br /> 3 before continuing his membership in the above. <br /> 4 The pros and cons of paying the $167 dues were explored at length, <br /> 5 including: <br /> 6 *concerns that such "splinter lobbying groups" might diminish <br /> 7 the efforts of the League of Minnesota Cities; <br /> 8 *perception that a "more parochial focus" might be necessary to <br /> 9 get a better concentration of economic development dollars for <br /> 10 the northern suburbs; <br /> 11 *desire for retention of a vehicle to provide better communica- <br /> 12 tion between north suburban officials; <br /> 13 *uncertainty about the actual benefits for St. Anthony. <br /> 14 Council Action <br /> 15 Motion by Ranallo, seconded by Marks to table the payment of Northern <br /> 16 Mayors Association dues until the next Council meeting for further <br /> 17 research by the Mayor relative to the issues raised during the October <br /> 18 27th meeting. <br /> •19 Motion carried unanimously. <br /> 20 Makowske Reports Attendance at October 21st RCLLG Meeting on Ramsey <br /> 21 County Library System Additions <br /> 22 The Councilmember reported securing additional library facilities for <br /> 23 Ramsey County communities had not been a major issue with her <br /> 24 because St. Anthony has a Hennepin County facility in its southern <br /> 25 shopping center, but she had found the discussions to be interesting, <br /> 26 nevertheless. <br /> 27 Mayor Thanks Councilmembers for Their Prayers and Get Well Expressions <br /> 28 After His Wife' s Surgery <br /> 29 Mayor Sundland reported Ardelle was making a good recovery from her <br /> 30 surgery and they both had been deeply touched by the expressions of <br /> 31 concern from Councilmembers, staff, and many of his friends.
