Regular Council Meeting <br /> March 26, 1991 <br /> page 7 <br /> • 1 The focus of this meeting , and that of future meetings, is on potential <br /> 2 areas of cooperation between the municipalities and various units of <br /> government and taxing authorities. Sharing of equipment and facilities , <br /> 4 mutual aid and joint powers agreements will be considered for discussion. <br /> 3 The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, April 27th at 8:00 a.m. in <br /> L the Moundsview City Hall . An evening meeting is being considered. Mayor <br /> .' Ranallo encouraged councilmembers to attend this meeting if possible. <br /> F <br /> 9 Andy Zurek contacted the Mayor to request the Council to consider the <br /> 10 installation of sidewalks across the street from his home on Silver Lane. <br /> 11 He is aware this would be an assessable project and he indicated a wil- <br /> 12 lingness on behalf of his neighbors to pay for the project. <br /> 13 <br /> i4 2. Councilmember Wagner' s Report <br /> 15 Councilmember Wagner attended the annual meeting of the St . Anthony <br /> 16 Merchants Association. He noted that Dennis Cavanaugh, of the Apache <br /> 17 Plaza Management Company, has offered payment of additional funds to <br /> 18 the Association to offset dues past from those businesses which have <br /> 19 moved out of Apache Plaza. It was noted at the meeting that St. Anthony <br /> 20 has not been paying its dues and has not been very cooperative with the <br /> 21 Merchants Association. <br /> 22 <br /> 23 Councilmember Marks inquired how delinquent the dues were and the Mayor <br /> 24 responded four or five months. Mayor Ranallo remarked there had been a <br /> 25 change in promotional activity for Apache Plaza and he had received calls <br /> 26 from residents who expressed rather pessimistic !,c r nr-s 3DCt;r 11'IP <br /> 27 future. <br /> 28 <br /> 29 Councilmember Wagner feels the occupany rate at Apache Plaza will increase. <br /> 30 At the annual meeting , it was stated that Herberger's is planning to expand , <br /> 31 the laundromat will relocate to another space in the Center and expand, <br /> 32 and that J.C. Penney' s lease renewal is out for signatures. Bonanza is <br /> 33 still interested but it may be some time before they can move in. <br /> 34 <br /> 35 3. Councilmember Fleming' s Report <br /> 36 Councilmember Fleming attended the information meeting at Wilshire School <br /> 37 regarding the future of the School District. The meeting focused primarily <br /> 38 on consolidation and approximately 150 people were in attendance. <br /> 39 <br /> 40 District x(282 School Board Chair, Mike Volna, chaired the meeting. Council- <br /> 41 member Fleming felt the public was generally uninformed and noted that <br /> 42 some attendees suggested every option other than consolidation had not <br /> 43 been explored: Consolidation among the St. Anthony, Columbia Heights, <br /> 44 New Brighton and Spring Lake Park school districts was discussed. Mayor <br /> bS Ranallo said joining the Moundsview school district had been a recommendation <br /> 46 at the Mayors ' meeting on March 23rd. <br /> 47 <br /> 48 4. Councilmember Marks' Report <br /> 49 Councilmember Marks felt the recent retreat of the City Council had been <br /> 50 very useful and beneficial . <br />
