Regular Council Meeting March 26, 1991 page 7 • 1 The focus of this meeting , and that of future meetings, is on potential 2 areas of cooperation between the municipalities and various units of government and taxing authorities. Sharing of equipment and facilities , 4 mutual aid and joint powers agreements will be considered for discussion. 3 The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, April 27th at 8:00 a.m. in L the Moundsview City Hall . An evening meeting is being considered. Mayor .' Ranallo encouraged councilmembers to attend this meeting if possible. F 9 Andy Zurek contacted the Mayor to request the Council to consider the 10 installation of sidewalks across the street from his home on Silver Lane. 11 He is aware this would be an assessable project and he indicated a wil- 12 lingness on behalf of his neighbors to pay for the project. 13 i4 2. Councilmember Wagner' s Report 15 Councilmember Wagner attended the annual meeting of the St . Anthony 16 Merchants Association. He noted that Dennis Cavanaugh, of the Apache 17 Plaza Management Company, has offered payment of additional funds to 18 the Association to offset dues past from those businesses which have 19 moved out of Apache Plaza. It was noted at the meeting that St. Anthony 20 has not been paying its dues and has not been very cooperative with the 21 Merchants Association. 22 23 Councilmember Marks inquired how delinquent the dues were and the Mayor 24 responded four or five months. Mayor Ranallo remarked there had been a 25 change in promotional activity for Apache Plaza and he had received calls 26 from residents who expressed rather pessimistic !,c r nr-s 3DCt;r 11'IP 27 future. 28 29 Councilmember Wagner feels the occupany rate at Apache Plaza will increase. 30 At the annual meeting , it was stated that Herberger's is planning to expand , 31 the laundromat will relocate to another space in the Center and expand, 32 and that J.C. Penney' s lease renewal is out for signatures. Bonanza is 33 still interested but it may be some time before they can move in. 34 35 3. Councilmember Fleming' s Report 36 Councilmember Fleming attended the information meeting at Wilshire School 37 regarding the future of the School District. The meeting focused primarily 38 on consolidation and approximately 150 people were in attendance. 39 40 District x(282 School Board Chair, Mike Volna, chaired the meeting. Council- 41 member Fleming felt the public was generally uninformed and noted that 42 some attendees suggested every option other than consolidation had not 43 been explored: Consolidation among the St. Anthony, Columbia Heights, 44 New Brighton and Spring Lake Park school districts was discussed. Mayor bS Ranallo said joining the Moundsview school district had been a recommendation 46 at the Mayors ' meeting on March 23rd. 47 48 4. Councilmember Marks' Report 49 Councilmember Marks felt the recent retreat of the City Council had been 50 very useful and beneficial .
