I CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br /> • 2 NOVEMBER 30, 1993 <br /> 3 PAGE 6 <br /> 4 <br /> 5 <br /> 6 The City Manager indicated that if the City switched to a <br /> 7 volunteer fire department it affects the rating and amount <br /> 8 payable in homeowner' s insurance. <br /> 9 <br /> 10 Peter Kmit, 2908 Silver Lake Court . His property value went <br /> 11 down and his City taxes went up 5% which he cannot afford <br /> 12 because he lives on social security. He said he will have <br /> 13 to sell his house and move elsewhere. <br /> 14 <br /> 15 Jim Wiehoff, 3508 Coolidge Street, N.E. Referred to a <br /> 16 newspaper article from last year stating the proposed taxes <br /> 17 were 4 . 90 . He said his increase was 13 . 8% . The Mayor said <br /> 18 it was because of devaluation in property and the tax <br /> 19 capacity decrease of the commercial industrial properties . <br /> 20 Mr. Wiehoff said in surrounding communities the taxes went <br /> 21 down. Since 1991 he has had a 34% increase in total taxes . <br /> 22 He said that things needed to be cut . <br /> 23 <br /> 24 J.B. Murray, 3021 Harding Street . He said his property <br /> 25 value increased 18%this year and he hasn' t done anything to <br /> 26 increase the its value.. Mr. Murray complimented the fire <br /> 7 department on their response to a heart attack he had. <br /> 8 <br /> 29 Georcre Thompson, 3015 39th Avenue N.E. He wanted to thank <br /> 30 the City Manager for his presentation because he found it to <br /> 31 be very informative. He said the services in St . Anthony <br /> 32 are great and he has no complaints and he is proud to be a <br /> 33 resident . <br /> 34 <br /> 35 Councilmember Enrooth felt the City Manager' s presentation <br /> 36 should be distributed so everyone could see what they. get <br /> 37 for their dollar. <br /> 38 <br /> 39 The Mayor welcomed any suggestions on ways to cut the budget <br /> 40 and stressed the fact that the most crucial thing for St . <br /> 41 Anthony is to get the tax base down and thought with the new <br /> 42 dental office and rebuilding Apache would be ways to do <br /> 43 this . <br /> 44 <br /> 45 VIII.
