City Council Meeting Minutes <br /> • January 26, 1999 . <br /> Page 5 <br /> 1 Cavanaugh reported on his attendance at a Citizen's League breakfast that morning at which the <br /> 2 Y2K issue was discussed. He presented a Citizen's Action Guide, adding that while business <br /> 3 and government may be making preparations, citizens as a group are not well-informed or being <br /> 4 taken care of as a constituency. He added Y2K is also a citizen's issue independent of <br /> 5 government, and asked Mr. Mornson to obtain a copy of the Red Cross' guidelines publication. <br /> 6 He added that if a national organization such as the Red Cross is presenting such a case for <br /> 7 preparation, the City's residents should be made aware of what Y2K will mean for them. <br /> 8 <br /> 9 Ranallo stated the Council had discussed the high school graduation rate in St. Anthony, which is <br /> 10 90% as confirmed by Faust. <br /> 11 <br /> 12 E. Mayor. <br /> 13 Ranallo reported on his attendance at the D.A.R.E. graduation, adding he had mentioned <br /> 14 Neighborhood Crime Watch in his presentation and has already had calls from residents <br /> 15 interested in becoming involved. <br /> 16 <br /> 17 Ranallo stated the Cable Commission had its first meeting with City Managers or designees in an <br /> 18 attempt to improve relationships between the Commission and its cities. He added all residents <br /> 4 should be aware that cable hookup is free of charge. <br /> 21 F. Ci , Manager. <br /> 22 Mornson stated he and Todd Hubmer, WSB, are finalizing a letter to the DNR requesting further <br /> 23 funding for the flood mitigation process, adding this marks the start of a new lobbying effort. <br /> 24 <br /> 25 Mornson stated Public Works Director Jay Hartman is working with Rieke Carroll Muller <br /> 26 Associates on issues related to the water filtration plant. He added an inspection was completed <br /> 27 and some repairs were deemed necessary which are under warranty and will be covered by state <br /> 28 and federal operations funding. <br /> 29 <br /> 30 VIII. PUBLIC HEARINGS None. <br /> 31 <br /> 32 IX. NEW BUSINESS. <br /> 33 A. Questions for Cily Managergarding Flood Water Mitigation Work session. <br /> 34 Ranallo stated a meeting was held January 25, 1999 with regard to flood control efforts, and <br /> 35 asked whether the Council had any questions for Mr. Mornson for clarification by the engineers <br /> 36 before the next meeting. <br /> 37 <br /> 38 Faust asked for clarification with regard to the different prices of pipes, and the exact water <br /> 39 retention capacity in Silver Point Park. <br /> 40 <br /> 0 Ranallo asked whether smaller pipes could be utilized without decreasing the 100-year flood <br /> 42 protection. <br />
