She added that when she last addressed the Council, it was noted that <br /> 2 many grants are income sensitive for which the City would not be eligible. <br /> 3 <br /> 4 Ms. Roadfeldt stated other metropolitan communities have received substantial grants from the <br /> 5 Liveable Communities fund, which aims to minimize the limit of urban sprawl and favors first <br /> 6 ring suburbs. She added Minnetonka had recently received a grant of$775,000 to redevelop <br /> 7 their city park. Mornson stated there was an housing income component to the Minnetonka <br /> 8 grant. Ms. Roadfeldt stated it was just for parks. <br /> 9 <br /> 10 She expressed regret that the City is missing these grant opportunities, and urged the Council to <br /> 11 seriously consider moving quickly to help the City proceed with researching and obtaining <br /> 12 available grants. <br /> 13 <br /> 14 Cavanaugh asked whether the City had explored these grant opportunities. Morrison stated some <br /> 15 grants have been explored, but the Liveable Communities funds usually entail a housing <br /> 16 component. Ms. Roadfeldt stated she had confirmed that a housing component is not tied to the <br /> 17 grant. <br /> 18 <br /> • Ranallo requested that Morrison review these grant opportunities. Cavanaugh expressed interest <br /> 20 in reviewing whether the grant opportunities are proportionate with the effort it takes to obtain <br /> 21 the funds and determining whether any real opportunities exist. Faust stated the League of <br /> 22 Minnesota Cities might have some resources to assist with this. <br /> 23 <br /> 24 Thuesen expressed interest in exploring grant opportunities for future projects, adding that while <br /> 25 City staff does an excellent job in this area,the City might be missing out on these opportunities. <br /> 26 <br /> 27 Motion by Marks, second by Faust to direct City Manager Mike Morrison to investigate available <br /> 28 grant programs and make recommendations to the City Council. <br /> 29 <br /> 30 Motion carried unanimously. <br /> 31 <br /> 32 Cavanaugh expressed concern that the Salvation Army Camp property situation is not being <br /> 33 handled with the necessary urgency, and the appraisal process will be lengthy. He stressed the- <br /> 34 importance of moving forward quickly for the City's legitimacy in the process. <br /> 35 <br /> 36 Faust stated it will be necessary to determine the property's worth before an offer is made. <br /> 37 Ranallo stated that funding sources have not been determined. Faust stated the City must <br /> 38 determine whether there are willing collaborators with the necessary funds, and Morrison's <br /> 39 meeting with the Regional Parks is a step in the right direction. He added the moratorium gives <br /> 00the City the opportunity to compile an orderly, managed plan. <br /> 1 <br />
