City Council Meeting,Minutes <br /> May 11, 1999 <br /> • Page 4 <br /> 1 Faust reported that the Volunteer Dinner on April 30, 1999 was a great event, and he thanked the <br /> 2 individuals who participated in volunteer programs throughout the past year. <br /> 3 <br /> 4 Faust reported that the Spring Clean-Up Day held May 1, 1999 was a resounding success. He <br /> 5 thanked the mayor and Councilmembers who were able to attend and assist in this effort. He <br /> 6 also thanked the community for their cooperation in making the community a clean, safe place to <br /> 7 live. <br /> 8 <br /> 9 Faust reported on 2 issues discussed at the May 6, 1999 Cable Commission meeting: a television <br /> 10 shoot with Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD) members which aired this week; and a <br /> 11 Cable Commission scholarship which was awarded to St. Anthony High School student Jason <br /> 12 March,who will use the funds to attend a college course in mass communications. <br /> 13 <br /> 14 Ranallo stated that a Cable Club has been formed by City students interested in cable, which is a <br /> 15 first for the City and will represent some real help for the cable channel. <br /> 16 <br /> 17 Thuesen thanked those residents and City staff involved in planning the volunteer dinner which <br /> 6 was a big success. <br /> 20 Thuesen reported on his attendance at a recent Community Services Advisory Council meeting <br /> 21 which was their final meeting until the fall, at which time the group plans to focus on deficit <br /> 22 spending which has occurred over the past few years. He added some issues to be discussed are <br /> 23 fee increases, decrease in programming, and other revenue options. <br /> 24 <br /> 25 Thuesen stated that Community Services reports good participation in their programs, and good <br /> 26 feedback from residents who have been involved in these programs. <br /> 27 <br /> 28 Thuesen reported on his attendance at the 2nd intergenerational dialogue at which the results of <br /> 29 the 1 st dialogue were discussed and a plan of action was considered. <br /> 30 <br /> 31 Cavanaugh reported that the 2nd intergenerational dialogue was a forum for prioritizing the 149 <br /> 32 recommendations which were resultant from the 1st dialogue. He stated that 4 major committees <br /> 33 were formed to discuss these recommendations and a report will be presented to the Council with <br /> 34 the committee's findings to discuss how this visioning work can be brought to the Council's <br /> 35 agenda. <br /> 36 <br /> 37 Cavanaugh stated that one of the issues discussed was safe, affordable activities for youth, which <br /> 38 is also a priority for the Chemical Health Coalition. He added there was a need expressed for a <br /> 39 teen center, and 2 groups are reviewing available land and buildings for such a purpose. He <br /> 0 expressed his enthusiasm over the amount of energy that participants bring to these dialogues. <br /> 41 <br />
