City Council Meeting Minutes <br /> July 13, 1999 <br /> • Page 4 <br /> 1 Ms. Westrom read a letter from Senator Grams which expressed his heartfelt congratulations in <br /> 2 memory of Bill Myers, and his conviction that Mr. Myer's dedication and service should be a <br /> 3 great source of pride for his family. <br /> 4 Mayor Ranallo thanked Ms. Westrom for her representation of Senator Grams in presenting the <br /> 5 plaque. <br /> 6 B. Presentation of Plaque to retiring Reserve Firefighter Dan Kramer by Mayor Ranallo <br /> 7 Ranallo welcomed Fire Chief Dick Johnson and invited him to address the Council. Johnson <br /> 8 presented a plaque to retiring reserve firefighter Dan Kramer. He stated Mr. Kramer has served <br /> 9 the community as a part-time firefighter with dedication and commitment for 25 years. He noted <br /> 10 Mr. Kramer was the first recipient of the Villager of the Year award. He added the City's part- <br /> 11 time firefighters make many sacrifices on behalf of the community, which owes them a debt of <br /> 12 gratitude. <br /> 13 Dan Kramer thanked the Fire Chief and Council for honoring him and creating such a <br /> 14 memorable occasion for him and his family. He thanked.his wife, Kay, for her support over the <br /> years. He stated he is proud to have served the community and worked with such an outstanding <br /> group of firefighters. He added he leaves the department with good feelings. <br /> 17 C. Sister City Association Report. <br /> 18 Ranallo invited Marks to address the Council with regard to recent Sister City association <br /> 19 activities. Marks stated the Rivakat Dance Group from Salo, Finland had recently visited the <br /> 20 City, and he invited representatives from the Sister City Association to address the Council. <br /> 21 Blossom Gullickson stated she is a member of the Sister City Association, and reviewed the <br /> 22 recent Rivakat Dance Group visit from June 14-24 during which 16 youth and 6 adults visited <br /> 23 the City and were excellent ambassadors of Salo, Finland. She added the group performed at 7 <br /> 24 different venues including the Swedish Institute and the St. Anthony Main Festival, as well as a <br /> 25 local picnic in their honor. She noted the group's excellent organization and discipline during <br /> 26 their stay. <br /> 27 Ms. Gullickson stated the program offers great value in that residents can see firsthand the <br /> 28 similarities and differences between the two cultures. <br /> 29 Ruth Ann Marks, 3424 Silver Lake Road, stated she is also a member of the organization, and <br /> 30 reviewed the picnic in honor of Rivakat which was held June 18 in the Central Park pavilion. <br /> 31 She noted the event was very successful,with 125 people in attendance, demonstrating the City's <br /> 32 strong support for the Sister City organization. She thanked Public Works Director Jay Hartman <br /> 0 and City staff for their assistance in planning and organizing the picnic. <br />
