City Council Meeting Minutes
December 16, 1999
• Page 3
1 A. Councilmembers.
2 Faust did not have a report.
3 Thuesen reported that he had attended a meeting with Community Services. A proposal had
4 been made regarding a joint agreement between the City of New Brighton and St. Anthony to
5 operate the pool. Currently, Community Services operates the pool, but it is believed that more
6 programs could be offered if St. Anthony coordinates operation and staffing of the pool with the
7 City of New Brighton.
8 Thuesen further reported that the director of Community Services is in support of the proposal,
9 and believed that the residents of St. Anthony would benefit from the cooperative arrangement.
10 A problem that has occurred in the past is the difficulty in attracting and retaining qualified staff
11 to operate the pool and related programs.
12 Although Thuesen reported that the cooperative arrangement is in the beginning stages, it prom-
13 ises significant opportunities to the residents of St. Anthony.
14 Additionally, Thuesen wished to take the opportunity to thank and congratulate the outgoing
Councilmembers and the Mayor for their many years of service for both the City Council and the
40 Planning Commission.
17 Thuesen reflected that there is generally a period of adjustment for new Councilmembers and
18 that he personally has benefited and appreciated the advice and wisdom from the veterans of the
19 Council.
20 In particular, Thuesen mentioned that Councilmember George Marks has been a voice of wisdom
21 and could be counted on to quietly intercede difficult discussions with an appropriate statement..
22 In addition, Thuesen stated that Councilmember Faust has been invaluable in approaching the
23 State Capitol and achieving funding for the City. Thuesen expressed sincere appreciation to
24 Faust for the diligence and work that he has done for the citizens of St. Anthony. And finally,
25 Thuesen expressed gratitude and heartfelt thanks to Mayor Ranallo for all of the many years of
26 service to the citizens and community of St. Anthony.
27 Thuesen wished both Councilmembers Marks and Faust, and Mayor Ranallo the best of luck in
28 their.future endeavors.
29 Cavanaugh reported that he had attended the groundbreaking ceremony for The Hitching Post.
30 He mentioned that the area now looks significantly different from the old Town& Country site,
31 and that the renovation would result in a beautiful new site. Asan aside, Cavanaugh mentioned
2 that the new owners are estimating high sales from the new store.
