1 CITY OF ST. ANTHONY <br /> CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING <br /> 3 JANUARY 25, 2000 <br /> 4 I. CALL TO ORDER. <br /> 5 Mayor Cavanaugh called the meeting to order at 7:22 p.m. <br /> 6 H. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE. <br /> 7 Mayor Cavanaugh invited the Council and the audience to join in the Pledge of Allegiance. <br /> 8 III. ROLL CALL. <br /> 9 Councilmembers present: Mayor Cavanaugh; Councilmembers Sparks, Thuesen, Horst, and <br /> 10 Hodson (sworn in at 7:30 p.m.). <br /> 11 Councilmembers absent: None <br /> 12 Also present: Michael Morrison, City Manager, City Attorney William Soth. <br /> 13 IV. APPROVAL OF JANUARY 25,2000 CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING AGENDA. <br /> 14 Motion by Thuesen to approve the January 25, 2000 City Council Regular Meeting Agenda as <br /> 15 presented. <br /> Motion carried unanimously. <br /> 17 V. APPOINTMENT AND SWEARING-IN OF NEW COUNCILMEMBER. <br /> 18 Mayor Cavanaugh provided a background regarding the Council vacancy. He stated that the va- <br /> 19 cancy was created because of his election as Mayor, and his Council term would expire on <br /> 20 December 31, 2001. As a result, the City advertised the vacancy and the deadline for <br /> 21 application submission was January 24, 2000. Requirements for the position were: (1) must be <br /> 22 18 years of age; (2) living in Minnesota 20 days prior to the appointment; and(3) resident of St. <br /> 23 Anthony; and(4) United States citizen. The City received seven applications and the Mayor <br /> 24 recited the names of the applicants. <br /> 25 The City Council conducted interviews prior to tonight's meeting, and proceeded with a lengthy <br /> 26 discussion regarding the choices of candidates. Unfortunately, the Mayor stated, the Council was <br /> 27 not able to arrive at a unanimous decision, and thus a nomination process would begin from the <br /> 28 slate of prospective candidates. <br /> 29 In this respect, Mayor Cavanaugh stated he would entertain,nominations at this time. <br /> 30 Horst moved to nominate Jerry Faust. <br /> 31 Sparks moved to nominate Randy Hodson. <br /> After calling for additional nominations and hearing none, Mayor Cavanaugh closed the floor to <br /> nominations. <br />
