City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br /> April 11, 2000 <br /> • Page 14 <br /> 1 As noted in the memorandum, the Planning Commission, Staff, and John Shardlow(City's con- <br /> e sulting planner) held a worksession to discuss how best to proceed with the project. The Com- <br /> a mission determined that the City's best interest would be served.if it proceeded with a new three- <br /> 4 step approach (in lieu of Hillcrest's request). Said approach would (1) amend the City's <br /> 5 Comprehensive Plan to accommodate an Office/High-tech designation; (2) change the City Code <br /> 6 to allow for Planned Unit Developments (PUD's); and (3) to have Hillcrest proceed with the de- <br /> 1 velopment of the Apache Plaza under the newly created PUD process. <br /> 8 Mornson wished to remind the Council that Assistant City Manager Isom would be attending the <br /> 9 Planning Commission meetings. <br /> 10 X. REPORTS FROM COUNCILMEMBERS. <br /> 11 Sparks reported that ACTION (Adults and Children Together in Our Neighborhood) is having a <br /> 12 meeting on Wednesday, April 12, 2000 to promote intergenerational events over the next year. <br /> 13 The meeting is scheduled at 8:00 a.m. at the high school. <br /> 14 Additionally, ACTION would be mailing a newsletter which will go to all parents of students in <br /> 15 the district. <br /> 406 Horst reported that on Thursday, April 13, 2000, the Chamber was hosting their annual meeting <br /> 17 and invitations have been mailed. The Business of the Year would be announced and the <br /> 18 evening promised to be eventful and interesting. <br /> 19 Hodson reported that recently the Sports Boosters and charitable gambling had approved a <br /> 20 $7,500 grant for ACTION. <br /> 21 Cavanaugh reported that on Saturday, April 15, 2000, a second meeting regarding VillageFest <br /> 22 would be held. Additionally, the Finnish/American Youth Art Exchange Grand Opening would <br /> 23 be held on Thursday, April 13, 2000 between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. He noted the <br /> 24 exquisite artwork displayed on the flyers advertising the event and wished to commend Ruth <br /> 25 Ann Marks and her committee on the outstanding job performed organizing the Art Exchange. <br /> 26 Additionally, Cavanaugh announced that the Art Exchange would be open on Friday, April 14 <br /> 27 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. <br /> 28 to 5:00 p.m. <br /> 29 Cavanaugh directed City Manager Mornson to add a presentation on Central Park redevelopment <br /> 30 to an upcoming Council agenda. The intent would be to update the three new Councilmembers <br /> 31 on the Park and to bring all members up to speed on the progress. Mornson responded that he <br /> 32 had envisioned this update to take place at the joint meeting with the Parks Commission on June <br /> 12, 2000. <br />
