1 -
1
® A ®
DATE :
-ALP PR O
May 28•, 198
. . T O : Mayor and Councilmembers
FROM :
Larry Harper, Public Works Director
I TEM : Well #5 Conversion
I propose the City convert Well #5 over to electric power with the capability of.. :running
on natural and propane gas.
The conversion can be done from monies out of the 1988 budget at the same cost for the
Well #4 conversion ($23,000).
NSP informed me that they will run the power to Well #5 (150 hp motor) over with trans-
former at no cost.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Recommend the City purchase the Nema, size 412. furnace pump-control , Model .87RF362MNA,
480 volt out of the 1987 budget. We were able to save on the Well #4 conversion
and have enough money to get the control panel for Well #5. $23,500 was budgeted
Znd $17,917.94 has been used for the conversion. The remaining $5,582.06 could be used
o purchase the control panel for Well #5. We expect an additional $23,000 to be
required 'in 1988 to complete this project.
COMMENTS
If Well #5 is converted, the City will be able to rely on it for first run operation.
Also, the motor is energy efficient; there is a rebate, and lower pumping rates.
According to NSP, Well #5 could be registered as an interruptable well . This would mean
the well could be pumped on gas or propane for a short duration which would result
in a power rate decrease.
The City needs all of the wells in the- first run operation in order to meet the demands.
Two quotations have been received for the panel . I recommend we accept the lowest
quotation from Layne Minnesota for $5,300.
:cjk6.3.87
