City Council Regular Meeting Minutes
September 27, 1994
Page 5
Wagner reported on his attendance at the recent Friends of Library Club meeting at the St.
Anthony Branch. Charles Brown, Hennepin County Library Director, stated at the meeting that
there were no immediate plans for closing this branch library. Mr. Brown is plans to meet with
all the City Councils by the end of the year. There is a meeting at the Ridgedale Branch Library
for all members of the Hennepin County Friends of Library and volunteers on November 5th.
Wagner distributed peanuts and reminded those present of the upcoming Kiwanis Peanut Day, a
fundraiser to be held on September 30, 1994.
Wagner also expressed sorrow at the recent passing of Ed Hance, who has been the City's
prosecuting attorney. He spoke of the need for service organizations in the St. Anthony area to
make a major effort in the drive for organ donors.
Fleming commented that there are two things involved with the risk of the St. Anthony-branch
library closing. One being the budget and the other being low usage. She emphasized that it is
up to the residents to keep the library open by obtaining library cards and using the library.
Marks reported on a telephone call he received today from a St. Anthony resident. This resident
was concerned with having a large business, such as Knox, move into Apache. He felt it would
cause a hardship on the smaller hardware stores. Marks said he understood the resident's concem
but felt that St. Anthony will greatly benefit by the addition of Knox and CUB Foods. These
businesses will help the tax base which in turn funds the schools and other city matters.
Enrooth reported his attendance at a meeting of the Environmental Quality/Recycling Task
Force. They are becoming quite active and are writing an article which will be included in the
City's next-newsletter.
D. City Manager,
City Manager Mornson reminded the Council that there will be a Budget Work Session next
Tuesday, October 4th. Department Heads will be in attendance to answer any questions.
Mornson announced a Neighborhood Meeting in the Council Chambers, regarding Street
Improvements on October 26th at 6:00 PM. The City Manger, Public Works Director, and RCM
Engineer will be in attendance. Letters will be sent to homeowners to announce the meeting.
Resolutions will be forthcoming in November or December.
Mornson reported that the National League of Cities Conference, December 1-4, will be attended
again this year by Councilmember Wagner.
Mornson announced a Homecoming party for the Gophers scheduled as a promotion at the
Stonehouse which is being done to raise activity levels in this establishment. The Stonehouse is
doing much better this year than last year.
