On behalf of the School Board, I am submitting this request for City Council approval of the required parking allotment at their meeting of August 22, 1995. • ota The project consists of a 11,600 square foot, single story addition to die South side of the building and a 3,800 square foot,single story addition to the West side. As we discussed, the City Council must review the packing requirements for this project. 'rhe additional spaces will be used as a library, four classrooms, science 1.00111, multipurpose room and are planned to accommodate the increased enrollment in the facility. The site currently has 77 parking spaces. During the next several years, the student enrollment is expected to be about 600 with 60 staff on-site at any one time during the clay. As we offered, we have researched what similar facilities in other cities are required to provide. We obtained parking requirements from Columbia Heights, Fridley, Falcon Heights, New Brighton, Mounds View and Arden Hills. All of these cities treat elementary schools and middle schools the same and at a much lower requirement because the students are younger than the legal driving age. Most of these formulas range from 41 to 87 spaces. Based on the past several years ex perience,.the.school udminigtraticn projects the need for 60-70 staff spaces and 15-20 visitor parking spaces for a total need of 90 spaces. Based on our recent experience in more than two dozen school districts, we feel that this is an ample number of spaces for die day-to-day operation of this facility.
