City Council Meeting Minutes <br /> November 10, 1998 <br /> Page 3 <br /> 1 <br /> 2 Thuesen reported on his attendance at the Chemical Health Coalition youth focus groups, <br /> 3 commenting on the opportunity they present for positive community action. He stated he was <br /> 4 impressed with the participating youth. <br /> 5 <br /> 6 Thuesen stated he had been in contact with Katherine Hayers, a teacher at Wilshire Park School, <br /> 7 who is heading a fundraising effort for victims of Hurricane Mitch in Honduras. He added Ms. <br /> 8 Hayers indicated the effort began as a school project but she hopes to encourage community <br /> 9 . involvement. Ms. Hayers is looking for a facility in which to store and sort items donated to the <br /> 10 effort, and residents interested in assisting can attend an organizational meeting on Thursday <br /> 11 November 12 at 10:00 A.M. in Room 112 at Wilshire Park School. <br /> 12 <br /> 13 Faust extended his thanks to the community for the high percentage of voter turnout at mid-term <br /> 14 elections on November 3, 1998. He pointed out the high number of voters speaks highly for the <br /> 15 City. He also thanked the election judges for their tireless efforts and hard work. <br /> 16 <br /> 17 B. Mayor. <br /> 18 Ranallo reported on a meeting on Thursday November 5, 1998 with regard to St. Anthony <br /> Shopping Center which was well-attended by retailers in the center. He added plans and ideas <br /> were discussed for the future of the shopping center. <br /> 21 <br /> 22 Ranallo reported on his involvement as co-host of the Channel 15 election results coverage <br /> 23 which lasted from 8:30 P.M. til 12:30 A.M. on November 3, 1998. He thanked the 50 volunteers <br /> 24 involved in the production as well as the staff of Channel 15, adding the production quality <br /> 25 improves each year that the results are televised. <br /> 26 <br /> 27 Ranallo stated he will give a State of the City address to the Chamber of Commerce at Chandler <br /> 28 Place on Thursday November 17, 1998. He requested the address be posted as an official <br /> 29 meeting. <br /> 30 <br /> 31 Cavanaugh stated the Mill City bakery is now open in the shopping center, which specializes in <br /> 32 hand-made European-style breads. He added new retailers such as Mill City are encouraging for <br /> 33 the potential and revitalization of the center. <br /> 34 <br /> 35 C. City Manager. <br /> 36 Mornson stated the public hearing for the Comprehensive Plan has been deferred to the <br /> 37 November 24, 1998 City Council meeting. <br /> 38 <br /> 39 Mornson reported on the progress of the City's internet web page design, which is near <br /> completion and expected to be on-line before the end of the year. He added a consultant, <br /> NetLink, has assisted with the project. <br /> 42 <br />
