r
MEMORANDUM
DATE: November 6 , 1980
TO: Jim Fornell, City Manager
FROM: Larry Hamer, .Public Works Director
SUBJECT: Sanitary Sewer - Silver Lane
I received a call that the sewer at 3408 Silver- Lane was plugged
on 11/1/80. We investigated and found the manhole. where the sewer
goes to was in 12" of water. . I told the homeowner that we would have
to investigate this situation more thoroughly Monday._
The crew televised`. the line and found that when the, line was installed
a break .was put in the elevation part of the 178 foot line which
flows to the west and part of the line flows to the east. The mis-
take in this procedure is the part of line flowing to the east goes
to a deadend manhole where 3408 Silver Lane .is connected. This was
one of the biggest errors' I have seen in the sanitary system. If
a break in elevation is made,. it is- normally done by installing a
manhole at the breaking. point .and.. connected to a downstream line.
This line is not functionable . and we must dig the line and make the
flow go to the west. The depth of this sewer is. too deep for our
machine to dig,, so we must rent a. machine to dig the new main.
The following is a list of the costs involved:
Machine rental @ .$130 . 00/day for 3 days $ 390 .00
Pipe replacement 600 .00
Road. restoration/curb. replacement 500. 00
Total $1,490 .00
Unanticipated lift pump repair 500 . 00
Total $1,990 . 00
Therefore, I recommend a budget transfer of $2 ,000 .00 out of account
Fund 10A to 702-4810-3370 , Maintenance and' Repairs-Other.
I also recommend that we proceed as .soon as possible with the
replacement of this sewer due to the weather and the necessity of
providing an. adequate sewer for this resident.
LH/cjk -
