• RESOLUTION 84-046 <br /> A RESOLUTION ON THE PUBLIC EMPLOYEES RETIREMENT SYSTEM <br /> WHEREAS, most of the employees of the City of St. Anthony belong to the Public <br /> Employees Retirement Association; and <br /> WHEREAS,_ a-.number.-of Public Employees Retirement Association Board members have <br /> raised significant questions relating to PERA Board election procedures, to the <br /> appointment process used to hire an .interim Executive Director of the Public <br /> Employees Retirement Association, as well as other administrative matters; and <br /> WHEREAS, the present method for election PERA Board members results in electing <br /> only those with such financial backing as to permit expensive mailed information <br /> campaigns, permitting a single organization or individual to determine Board <br /> membership; and <br /> WHEREAS, greater diversity on the Board. would assure that decisions of that body <br /> are better considered; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of St. Anthony, <br /> Minnesota, requests the following actions: <br /> • 1 . That the legislature conduct an investigation into PERA Board election <br /> practices and also into the administration of PERA. <br /> 2. That the legislature consider amending the statutes which determine <br /> the method by which the PERA Board is constituted to provide that three <br /> fewer members shall be elected by the PERA general membership and three <br /> _additional members shall be appointed by the Governor from among non- <br /> PERA member citizens of Minnesota. <br /> 3. That immediate action- be taken to remove the interim Executive Director <br /> and to provide for an open process to select a Public Employees Retire- <br /> ment Association Executive Director. <br /> Adopted this 13 day of I�[oyean.� e�r 1984. <br /> Mayor —jz/�Wzw <br /> AT -EST <br /> City Clerk <br /> Reviewed for administration: <br /> ,_ City Manager <br />
