• RESOLU.TION 88-006 A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF INCREASING FUNDING FOR THE NORTHERN MAYORS' ASSOCIATION WHEREAS, the City of St. Anthony is a member of the Northern Mayors ' Association; and WHEREAS, the Northern Mayors ' Association was formed in 1985 with a stated mission as follows: The mission of the Northern Mayors ' Association is to initiate actions, provide leadership and commit the resources necessary to insure the equitable distribu- tion of economic development, shared tax resources and uniform-investment in public facilities throughout the Metropolitan community. We value the equal opportunity for all residents to enjoy the same quality of life. WHEREAS, the Northern Mayors ' Association has to date been effective in increasing communications , coordination and mutual support in matters which affect the Northern Metropolitan area; and WHEREAS, a Steering Committee was established to determine how the Northern Mayors ' Association could more effectively lobby at the various levels of governmental decision making to achieve the area goals in ' transportation and economic development and to coordinate and avoid duplicating the efforts of numerous or- ganizations in the area of transportation; and WHEREAS, the Steering Committee has presented a budget for the Northern Mayors' Association of $100 ,000 to hire full time staff and operate an office or to retain competent consultants to represent the Association; and WHEREAS, the Northern Mayors ' Association recognizes that additional funds will be needed for promotional purposes, the report adopted by the Association proposes to raise additional funds from the private sector either in cash or in kind contribu- tions on an as needed basis. WHEREAS, the Northern Mayors ' Association member Mayors agreed with the recommendation of the Steering Committee and agreed to take the proposal back to their respective City Councils for approval. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of St. Anthony agrees with the recommendation of the Northern • Mayors ' Association to provide funding for a full time staff (or consultant) to further the lobbying efforts in the area of transportation and economic development of the northern suburbs.
