He said recent surveys have <br /> indicated such parents have a need for care of the elementary children <br /> • after school, kindergarteners -for .half a day and :occasional day care <br /> for children whose parents -take only part time -jobs . Mr. McMullen <br /> said his association with the Hennepin County CETA. program has <br /> convinced him that the lack -.of adequateday care facilities is the <br /> greatest barrier to employment of many low and moderate income <br /> parents . He assumed a great many of the parents who have indicated <br /> an interest in a day care cen.ter. would come within .the grant guide- <br /> lines as to income and pointed out the economies of establishing the <br /> center in the unused portion of .Wilshire School with licensed day <br /> care teachers hired to -run the center. These particular funds could <br /> provide .the seed money for the preliminary planning 'and purchase of <br /> some of the equipment which- will be necessary to set up the center. <br /> The hearing was closed at 7 : 35 P.M. <br /> Mr. Berg -told Mrs . Makowske he .does not anticipate the City administra- <br /> tion costs will exceed the $1, 500 allocated for that purpose . <br /> Motion by Mr. Peterson. and seconded. by 'Mrs .. Makowske to allocate <br /> Year VIII Community 'Development Block Grant funds .to the following <br /> eligible activities : <br /> Housing: rehabilitation $32 ,630 <br /> Housing: new construction 15 ,000 <br /> Public service 5 ,460 <br /> Program administration 1 ,500 <br /> Before a vote was taken on the motion, the following amendment was <br /> offered: <br /> Motion by Mrs . Makowske and seconded by Chairman Jones to identify <br /> the "new construction" as "N.E.
