1 *said the uniform signage plan was something the Council and
Commission had been seeking for a long time prior to granting any
more sign variances for center businesses;
4 *recommended the Commission consider approval of the variance with
5 installation of the tenant directory allowed only after the building
6 facia and new pylon sign have been installed;
7 *agreed with the Eberhardt Company's reasoning that center
8 identification is also needed from Kenzie Terrace from which most St.
9 Anthony customers approach the center.
10 Proponents - Joseph DiSanto, representing the center owners
11 Rod Johnson, Eberhardt Manager of the center
12 Clayton P. Gosswiller and Dick Horst of Coast to Coast
13 Mr. DiSanto told the Commissioners that the owners intend to continue
14 renovating the center investing a quarter of a million dollars in the
15 project. He said:
16 *they would be installing a new sign band all along the facia of the
17 center buildings as indicated in the photos and sign plans distributed
18 for Commission viewing;
19 *the center owners had contracted with Sign Graphics of Dallas, Texas
20 to write the sign criteria and develop a sign design which would be
followed for this center. The same plan is being followed for a
is similar 20 year old center in Dallas which the owners are also
23 renovating;
24 *the sign company had offered a bulk price for individual signs which
X25 the tenants could avail themselves of or contract for signs from a
26 local sign company;
27 *the sign band installation would be a joint project with a local sign
28 company and would serve to back light the individual signs;
29 *their intent would be to totally redo all the existing canopy facia
30 covering that with the sign band to include the library for which his
31 company would be paying for the signage as well as the Mobil station
32 from whom the owners have gotten some preliminary indication that they
33 would cooperate;
34 *the Dairy Queen would not be included because their signage is the
35 company logo.
36 Mr. DiSanto indicated the pylon sign would have the same
37 characteristics as the tenant signage and directory and he gave
38 detailed descriptions of each. He requested that the City allow the
39 directory to be illuminated at night. He also reported that the owners
40 were very close to signing an agreement with Coast to Coast to come into
41 the vacant Penny grocery store and serve as the anchor business for the
0 5
