PLANNING COMMISSION - APRIL 16, 1991
Page 15
METROPOLITAN COUNCIL NEWSPAPER:

Commissioner Faust showed the Commission his Metropolitan
Council newspaper and inquired whether other
Commissioners also receive it. He said that he started
receiving the publication after attending the Planning
Institute, and recommended an article in the current
issue regarding managing public outrage.

FILTRATION PLANT DEDICATION:

City Manager Burt announced the dedication ceremony for
the new filtration plant to be held on Thursday, April 18
from 5: 00 to 7 : 00. Calgon had contributed drinking
glasses to the ceremony.

Commissioner Murphy asked about the possibility of
selling St. Anthony's water in bottled form for drinking
because it is so pure. City Manager Burt responded that
the possibility of selling water to other communities had
been investigated under the TCAAP plan, but such a plan
would probably not be feasible since St. Anthony will
continue to experience water shortages during high-use
periods, dry periods, and emergency situations. The
Federal government/E.P.A. design of the plant currently
does not meet St. Anthony's peak hourly capacity needs,
and the City will be in constant contact with the E.P.A.
office in Chicago to remedy that problem. Historical
records of the plant design and implementation are being
examined by Burt along with the P.C.A. and E.P.A.
officials to determine the source of the design error.
Sabo is aware of and supports St. Anthony's position in
the matter of restoring adequate water capacity to the
City.

RESIGNATION OF ASSISTANT TO THE CITY MANAGER:

City Manager Burt announced that Susan VanderHeyden has
accepted a position as assistant city administrator in
the city of Rosemount. He thanked her for her years of
dedicated and excellent service and noted that she will
be missed by him and the rest of the City staff.
Chairman Madden commented that the Planning Commission
has consistently enjoyed a good relationship with
VanderHeyden. Commissioner Faust recommended that the
Commission publicly thank VanderHeyden for her fine
effort and the hours she has put into her work over the
years. Faust commented that VanderHeyden had been
extremely supportive in helping him come on board as a
new Commissioner, and has always made her help available.
i
