Planning Commission Meeting Minutes <br /> • December 15, 1998 <br /> Page 4 <br /> 1 Ms. Moore-Sykes stated two letters of application had been received for the Commission's two <br /> 2 openings, and the candidates would be interviewed by the City Council at 6:30 P.M. on <br /> 3 December 16, 1998 for approval at their regular meeting that night. She invited the <br /> 4 Commissioners to attend if interested. <br /> 5 <br /> 6 4. Discussion of Goals for 1999. <br /> 7 Makowske stated a request had been made of the Commission by Bergstrom to consider <br /> 8 priorities for the Commission in 1999, and he opened the discussion. <br /> 9 <br /> 10 Gondorchin stated the Commission might want to wait until its two newly elected members are <br /> 11 in attendance, and also to regenerate the previous list of priorities for the Commission's review. <br /> 12 <br /> 13 Wagner stated with his temporary commission coming to an end he would not be involved in <br /> 14 1999's goals, but he reviewed some suggestions for the Commission. He cited three main areas <br /> 15 for the Commission's focus which will likely come to the forefront in 1999: the Salvation Army <br /> 16 camp property; Apache Plaza; and St. Anthony Shopping Center. He added the Commission <br /> 17 must establish its priorities before determinations are made and finalized. <br /> 18 <br /> Wagner stated the City Manager will be the first point of contact at the City for developers, and it <br /> will be important for the Commission to be proactive in making their wishes known to him. He <br /> 21 added he would wish the Salvation Army camp property to be developed into a corporate campus <br /> 22 setting with a portion preserved for parkland. <br /> 23 <br /> 24 Gondorchin expressed his agreement with regard to the importance of the Salvation Army camp <br /> 25 property, adding its zoning will be a crucial factor. He stated contingencies must be made for <br /> 26 property in the south end of the City which has been recently acquired. He added he would wish <br /> 27 the City to generate some support from developers with regard to Apache Plaza, and make them <br /> 28 aware that the City will be proactive in its development of the property to include incorporation <br /> 29 of the railroad properties to create a unique site. <br /> 30 <br /> 31 Gondorchin stated the City must create an identity and become aggressive in its approach toward <br /> 32 attracting residents and developers. He added the City must invigorate and enforce housing code <br /> 33 regulations. <br /> 34 <br /> 35 Gondorchin stated parks issues are important to citizens and the Commission must keep parks <br /> 36 - development at the forefront of their agenda for 1999. He added some form of cosmetic <br /> 37 improvement was necessary on 37th Avenue which might be tied in with the redevelopment of <br /> 38 Apache. <br /> 39 <br /> Gondorchin stated he would wish the Commission to create guidelines with regard to natural <br /> if habitat on personal property: kinds and varieties, and height regulations. <br /> 42 <br />
