tholaeDATEilAPPROVALDecember l, ain <br /> , 989 <br /> TO - Planning Commission Members <br /> ]FROM: Sue VanderHeyden, Assistant to the City Manager <br /> 2 TEM : SIGN VARIANCE REQUEST FROM LANEL FINANCIAL FOR <br /> AUTUMN WOODS APARTMENTS <br /> LaNel Financial Group, Inc. is requesting a sign variance for an <br /> increase in the size allowed for directional signs at the Autumn Woods <br /> Apartments, 2600 Kenzie Terrace. <br /> LaNel Financial has revised the original request substantially. Four <br /> directional signs are requested, three of which are 5 feet by 3 feet (15 <br /> square feet) and one of which is 3 feet by 1. 73 feet (5.19 square feet) . <br /> As shown in the attached booklets after Tab #1, the locations of the <br /> signs have been numbered to correlate with the attached letter from <br /> LaNel and the numbers on the diagrams. <br /> Sign #1 -- Tab 2 <br /> Sign #2 -- Tab 3 <br /> Sign #3 -- Tab 4 <br /> Sign #4 -- Tab 5 <br /> Monument sign -- Tab 6 <br /> A sign strictly designating the rental center (sign #3 ) was added to the <br /> package. However, sign #4 , located at an entrance to and designating <br /> addresses at Building B and C was inadvertently .omitted. <br /> The sizes of the signs have been decreased; three signs at 15 square <br /> feet and one sign at 5.19 square feet for a total of 50:19 square feet. <br /> (Previous proposal had requested two signs for a total of 68.25 square <br /> feet. ) The City Sign Ordinance allows for directional- signs of 5 square <br /> feet each. <br /> A possible way to decrease the total signage would be .to incorporate <br /> signs 2 and 3, directions to Buildings A and B and the rental center. <br /> In addition, LaNel has requested permission for the use of 3 banners <br /> stating "Now Renting. " A recommendation should be made on this issue. <br /> Finally, the temporary sign located at 2905 Kenzie Terrace must be <br /> removed by May 1, 1990. The Commission may wish to recommend that all <br /> temporary signage (not inclusive of the "Now Renting" banners) be <br /> removed at that time. <br /> :cjk12. 19.89 <br />
