' 'MINNESOTA OFFICE OF
SYS
Environmental Assistance ,
Dear Friend:
Happy New Year! With the beginning of 1997,you may have made a few resolutions; and in that spirit
we'd like to add just one more on your list. This one is very easy and will probably satisfy at least one
of your objectives for the year.
• Join an educational, inspirational, action-oriented network
The Minnesota Sustainable Communities Network(MnSCI9.
If you dream of your community prospering over generations, enjoying a healthy natural environment,
strong economy and vibrant civic life, the MnSCN is for you. The goal of MnSCN is to encourage
networking, information exchange, and better access to assistance on the topic of sustainability: meeting
our needs today while ensuring.ihatfuture generations can continue to meet their own needs.
The network consists of individuals and organizations in Minnesota.(and bordering areas)who are
interested in moving towards sustainability. There'is no charge for•membership;and no further
obligation for joining.
So, if you are interested in topics as diverse as preventing pollution, improving resource efficiency;,,
designing more pedestrian-oriented communities, fostering greater participation in your community's
civic life, of"green architecture,"MnSCN can prove useful to you. You'will have an opportunity to
meet others with similar interests at regional gatherings, obtain useful educational resources, learn of
funding opportunities, and receive updates on other sustainable communities activities. We can also
put you in contact with other networks of people working on issues of interest to you. Just fill out the
membership form in the enclosed brochure and send it back to us.
Please don't delay, because in mid-February we plan to contact MnSCN members for their ideas.on .
possible MnSCN activities. We also hope to distribute free educational materials to MnSCN members
within the next two months which can help you work towards sustainability in your community.
The staff-at the Office of Environmental Assistance's Sustainable Communities team looks.forward to
working with you and.to your participation in MnSCN.
