STAFF REPORT
DATE: May 20, 1997
TO: Planning Commission Members
FROM: Kim Moore-Sykes, Management Assistant
ITEM: Sign Proposal for Apache Medical Building
BACKGROUND:
In an attempt to lease the available space in the Apache Medical Building, Jeff Wirth has
been able to attract a variety of clients. With that variety has come a request for wall
signage on the south side of the Medical Building.
I called Shoreview, Roseville, and Fridley in attempt to find out how other cities deal with
this issue. Unfortunately, staff from these cities have difficulty in this regard as well. Both
Roseville and Shoreview indicated that they require the owner or developer to present a
comprehensive sign plan to the Planning Commission and City Council for approval.
Once approval has been received, the onus is on the owner/developer to administer the
sign plan. S/he is ultimately responsible to the City for any violations, revisions, etc., to
the approved sign plan.
Fridley has promised to send their sign ordinance but I have not yet received it.
Attached is the proposed sign plan from Wirth Companies.
