REPORTS.
A. Planning Commission - August 19 1997.
Planning Commissioner Chris Makowske was present to report on the issues addressed at the
August 19, 1997 Planning Commission meeting.
1. Rick Lorenz, for 3821 Foss Road; Side Yard Setback Variance Request.
Commissioner Makowske reported the Planning Commission held a public hearing on August
19 to consider a side yard variance request for Rick Lorenz, 3821 Foss Road. He reported
this is a long and somewhat narrow lot. There currently is a tri-plex on the lot-and Mr.
Lorenz would like to construct an addition, converting the building to a four-plex with a
double car tuck-under garage. He is also planning to add a 10 x 20 storage room on the back
of the proposed addition. Mr. Lorenz is also planning to remove an existing storage building
to the east of the proposed addition, thereby reducing the lot coverage and getting rid of an
old building to improve the storm water drainage of the property.
Commissioner Makowske reported that the Planning Commission had difficulty finding a
hardship to support the granting of the variance. The Commission did not believe that
economic consideration was the primary motivation as the owner lives at the property. The
Commission and the neighbors of the property noted that Mr. Lorenz has improved the
grounds since he bought the property and has been a good neighbor. Without the setback
variance, this would be a wonderful project.
