Public Works - Capital Equipment: <br /> 5 1. MacQueen Equipment, Inc. in the amount of$26,092.50 for Bear Cat demo <br /> 6 unit. <br /> 7 H. 2 pages of Verified Claims as presented by the Finance Director. <br /> 8 Motion carried unanimously. <br /> 9 VII. REPORTS. <br /> 10 A. Presentation of Check to the City by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources <br /> 11 relating to flood mitigation. <br /> 12 Mayor Ranallo welcomed Ken Lockesmoe, Director of the DNB's Flood Damage Reduction <br /> 13 Program, as well as State Representative Mary Jo McGuire and Hennepin County <br /> 14 Commissioner Mark Stenglein. He thanked them all for attending and for their roles in <br /> 15 assisting the City in receiving flood relief funds. Mayor Ranallo stated Senator John Marty <br /> 16 and Ramsey County Commissioner Jan Weissner were unable to attend. <br /> 17 Mr. Lockesmoe attended the Council meeting to present the City of St. Anthony with a check <br /> 18 for $1 million. He stated since recent flooding in the Red River Valley in 1997 and local <br /> 19 flooding in July 1998, there has been increased interest in flood mitigation among legislators. <br /> 20 The Flood Damage Reduction Program was implemented 10 years ago, but these recent events <br /> 21 have given it impetus. <br /> 22 Mr. Lockesmoe confirmed the State is providing $2 million in funding for flood relief. This is <br /> 23 accomplished with the understanding further efforts are necessary and will hopefully be <br /> 24 implemented in the next legislative session. He commended all parties involved for working <br /> 25 together successfully. <br /> 26 The check for $1 million,.presented by Mr. Lockesmoe.to Mayor Ranallo, represents half the <br /> 27 amount which the City will receive. <br /> 28 Mayor Ranallo expressed gratitude and appreciation for all Mr. Lockesmoe has done in <br /> 29 collaboration with Representative McGuire, Commissioner Stenglein and Senator Marty. He <br /> 30 stated the Council is aware the City must match the funds. He added there is a group which <br /> 31 does not support these efforts, but he hopes all parties will work together toward the common <br /> 32 goal of flood relief. He stated despite numerous problems locally related to flood damage, the <br /> 33 City has been fortunate not to sustain any loss of life. <br /> 34 Mayor Ranallo stated Commissioner Stenglein, who grew up in the affected neighborhood, is <br /> 35 familiar with the flooding problems there.
