Variance – Description of Request

In April 2016 we are planning to remodel our house with an addition off the back
and expansion of our garage. The current garage is a small one‐stall garage that is
attached to the house and next to our neighbor’s house. The current size of the
garage is just barely large enough to pull in a full size car (see image attached). We
are barely able to open the doors on one side of the car (if we pull the car in closer to
one side) when the car is in the garage. To make this garage more useful we would
like a variance to move the outside wall closer to our property line on the South side
of the property. We would like to create a 2‐car tandem garage, we would do this by
bringing the front of the garage forward a few feet, and back a few feet (see example
image below). The majority of homes in our neighborhood were either built with 2‐
car garages, or they were added later. We are hoping we can go to 3’ 6” off our
property line, which would give us about 2 more feet of space in the garage, which
should be enough to make it functional.

Current image of garage:

Image of tandem garage style:
19
