City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br /> August 26, 2003 <br /> • Page 14 <br /> petition the Legislature to have a local sales tax for a specific project. He asked if Council <br /> 2 thought it appropriate for him to testify before the Department of Revenue asking for local <br /> 3 authority to have a sales tax, going in the direction that the residents would be required to give <br /> 4 the authority to implement it. He stated the City would not need to have a sales tax; however, <br /> 5 approval of his request would keep the City from having to go to the Legislature. He indicated <br /> 6 approval probably would not be obtained. Mayor Hodson encouraged Councilmember Faust to <br /> 7 proceed if he was willing. <br /> 8 <br /> 9 Councilmember Faust stated he had been approached the previous evening at a Sister City <br /> 10 meeting regarding students wishing to correspond and/or plan a summer trip to the sister city <br /> 11 during the next year. He added Salo, the sister city, actually had a person on the city staff who <br /> 12 coordinated sister-city activities. He noted the Sister City Association was going to be giving <br /> 13 information and advice regarding language, culture, etc. <br /> 14 <br /> 15 Mayor Hodson reported he would be attending a Transportation Advisory Board meeting for the <br /> 16 League the following day. <br /> 17 <br /> 18 Mayor Hodson encouraged City staff, consultants to the City and the development team to work <br /> 19 together on the discussed issues, as the City had watched many projects get to a certain point and <br /> 20 then fade away. He stated the residents of the City were tired of that process. <br /> 21 <br /> IX. INFORMATION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS. <br /> None. <br /> 4 <br /> 25 X.
