Z3
M `' ST. ANTHONY - NEW BRIGHTON
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT 282
- 3303 33rd Avenue N.E.,Minneapolis,Minnesota 55418. Telephone 782-1000
October 18, 1995
Mr. Mike Momson, City Manager
St. Anthony City Offices
3301 Silver Lake Road
St. Anthony, MN 55418
Dear Mike:
On behalf of the School District I am requesting school zone, cmcc walk and reduced speed limit
signs be installed on 3rd Avenue in front of the Middle School/High School. This has long been of
concern ern and the issues of speed ana stu ent s etymust be addressed.—
My recommendation is to install signs similar to that which are used by the Columbia Heights
school district on 49th Avenue in front of Highland Elementary and Columbia Heights High School. I
have attached a drawing of the type of signs I would like to see. The specific location would need to be
• discussed.
I envision two signs greeting vehicles from both east and west. The first sign would be a yellow
flashing light indicating a school zone with a reduced speed of 20 miles/hour, when flashing. I have
diagrammed this on the attachment. The second would designate cross-walks with a yellow sign and
arrow pointing to it so the drivers would be aware of the cross-walks location.
I would be more than happy to attend a meeting when this is placed on the agenda.
I am also looking carefully at the Wilshire Park situation at Highcrest which, to me, is another
dangerous spot, but I need some advice as to how this can be addressed as there are two cities involved
and I am not sure as to where crosswalks should be located. Perhaps even the Department of Public
Safety needs to involved in assisting us here.
Again, thanks for your help and let me know if you need additional information.
Sin ly,
Warren . olek
Superintendent of Schools
WJR/sb
• Enclosure
"Someplace Special"
