3/ <br /> expiration of such period, the applicant may request a further extension of • <br /> time, otherwise the sign must be removed. <br /> Subd. 9. Temporary Signs, other than Political Si r�is. Temporary signs, other <br /> than political signs, pertaining to drives or events of civic, philanthropic, <br /> educational or religious organizations, provided permission of the Council <br /> must be obtained to erect such signs upon or over public property and <br /> provided further that such signs shall not be erected or posted for a period of <br /> more than 14 days prior to the date of the event and must be removed within <br /> 3 days after the event. If prior permission is not obtained from the City <br /> Manager, the sign shall be removed immediately. <br /> Subd. 10. Teml2orary Commercial Signs. Signs which do not have a sign <br /> surface area in excess of 32 square feet and which are erected or displayed for a <br /> period of time not to exceed 30 days in any year. Permission of the City <br /> Manager must be obtained to erect such signs. If prior permission is not <br /> obtained from the City Manager, the sign must be removed immediately. <br /> Subd. 11. Flags and Emblems. Flags and emblems of governmental, civic, <br /> philanthropic, educational or religious organizations. Flags of the United <br /> States, the state, the city, foreign nationals having diplomatic relations with <br /> the United States, and any other flag adopted or sanctioned by an elected • <br /> y legislative body or competent jurisdiction, provided that such a flag shall not <br /> exceed 60 square feet in area and shall not be flown from a pole the top of <br /> which is more than 40 feet in height. These flags must be flown in accordance <br /> with protocol established by the Congress of the United States for the Stars <br /> and Stripes. Any flag not meeting any one or more of these conditions shall <br /> be considered a temporary sign and shall be subject to regulation as such. <br /> Subd. 12. Residential Real Estate Signs. Real estate signs, provided the <br /> combined sign surface area of such is not greater than 6 square feet. Real <br /> estate signs must be removed within 7 days after the closing date. <br /> Subd. 13. Commercial Real Estate Signs. Real estate signs erected on private <br /> property, provided the combined sign surface area is not greater than 32 <br /> square feet. Real estate signs must be removed within 7 days after the closing <br /> date. <br /> Subd. 14. Signs Affixed on Benches at Public Bus Stops. <br /> Subd. 15. Replacement of Existing Business Identification Signs.
