OCT 24 '97 02:23PM HENNEPIN CO COMMISSI P.1
a
Date: Thursday, 23 October 1997 1 : 57pm CT
MAYBETH.CHRISTENSEN
m: JAMES.GRUHE
Ojecti
In-Reply-To: The letter of Thursday, 23 October 1997 1 ;34pm CT
Yes we can have a speed study done. Mn/DOT is the agency responsible for
conducting all such studies, regardless of jurisdiction of the road in
question. To get Mn/DOT to conduct the study, we would have to write
them with a request that it be done. Before we do so, we generally wish
to have the city in -which the road segment-is Iodated pass a resolution
indicating support for such a study. ,
You should be advised that the outcome of the study can support a speed
limit reduction, no change, or a speed limit increase. Whatever Mn/DOT
finds as a result of its work, we are generally obliged to follow. This
is the reason why we like to have the city, pass a resolution to make
sure it knows the implications.
Let me know if you would like more info. That ' s when the 50 and 55 mph limits were last
confirmed.
------------- ( end of letter ) ------------------ ------------------------ --- -
