r ,
z
• MEMORANDUM
DATE: March 31, 1998
TO: Mike Mornson, City Manager
FROM: Dick Johnson, Fire Chief
ITEM: CODE OF BEHAVIOR WHILE INSPECTING
This has been our code of behavior for fire inspections for the past 16 years. We
have extended this code to cover our city code inspections as well.
1. You represent the fire department and the city. Look and act appropriately.
2. Always ask the owner/manager of the property if a fire inspection is
• convenient at this time. Have the owner/manager accompany you on the
inspection.
3. If you discover a code violation, explain the nature of that violation and
why it should be corrected.
4. Explain what should be done to correct the violation. If options are
available,describe those options.
5. Set a deadline for compliance. The time allowed will depend on the impact
of the violation on life safety and the ability of the owner to comply.
6. Follow up.
7. If you sense a problem with compliance, record everything.
