RESOLUTION NO. 68-057 <br /> RESOLUTION DEFINING THE DUTIES AND RE- <br /> SPONSIBILITIES OF THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC <br /> SAFETY <br /> WHEREAS, the Village Council has recently authorized the establishment of <br /> a Department of Public Safety and has directed the Village Manager to hire a Director <br /> of Public Safety; and, <br /> WHEREAS, there is need to establish and define the duties and respon- <br /> sibilities of the Director of Public Safety; <br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Village Council define and approve <br /> the following duties and responsibilities as outlined by the Village Manager for <br /> the Director of Public Safety. <br /> 1. There shall be a Department of Public Safety, headed by a Director <br /> of Public Safety, and such employees as may from time to time be approved; all <br /> such employees to be appointed by and responsible to the Village Manager. <br /> 2. The Department. of Public Safety, under its Director of Public Safety, <br /> shall be charged with the protection of all persons and property through the pre- <br /> vention of crimes, accidents, civil disorders and fires, including activities de- <br /> signed to suppress criminal activities, control of traffic, the extinguishment of <br /> fires, and generally the enforcement of all local ordinances of the Village of <br /> St. Anthony. The Director of Public Safety shall be entitled to all of the rights, <br /> privileges and benefits affecting the members of the Village Police Department <br /> • and granted by any ordinances or state law. <br /> 3. The Public Safety Director shall head and be responsible for the <br /> operation of the Civil Defense Department, the Police Department and the Fire <br /> Department, and he shall coordinate the activities of all such departments and <br /> shall recommend to the Village Manager such rules and regulations for the operation <br /> of the Department of Public Safety as may be required to promote effective service <br /> to the residents of the Village, and as may be required to qualify for funds to <br /> assist in the operation of the Civil Defense Department. <br /> 4. The Director of Public Safety shall recommend to the Village Manager <br /> the establishment of rules covering the assignment of personnel and equipment of <br /> the department outside the corporate limits of the Village, together with the terms <br /> and conditions for providing such service, and may recommend to the Manager and <br /> Village Council the entering into of mutual assistance agreements with any other <br /> police, fire, civil defense, or other public safety agency. The Public Safety <br /> Director shall have charge of the use of all buildings, equipment, and other pro- <br /> perty of the Fire, Police and Civil Defense Departments. <br /> 5. The Village Manager is directed to revise the Organizational Chart <br /> of the Village to reflect the duties herein assigned to the Director of Public <br /> Safety. <br /> Adopted this 5th day of November, 1 <br /> ooz;;150� <br /> • ATTEST: Mayor <br /> Villanler <br /> Vil ge Manager <br />
