City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br /> February 13, 2001 <br /> Page 9 <br /> 1 Morrison reviewed the future Council agenda items, both action and review items, for the next <br /> 2 two months. He pointed out specific items including the investment report by Ehlers as a result <br /> 3 of the goal setting, and Fire Chief Hewitt's presentation of a code policy at the March 13 study <br /> 4 session. In addition, he mentioned the Board of Review property evaluation at the April 10 study <br /> 5 session. <br /> 6 Morrison continued with updates including DARE graduation on February 15, Staff Goal Setting <br /> 7 on February 15 to finalize the objectives and actions steps to then present to the Council, the <br /> 8 Employee Recognition Lunch on March 1, and the Volunteer Dinner for which invitations will <br /> 9 be mailed in the middle of March. He added that Chief of Police Engstrom is on a 30 day <br /> 10 medical leave of absence. <br /> 11 Hodson reported that he recently met with President Yudof of the University of Minnesota, <br /> 12 Congressman Sabo, and a Commissioner of the Department of Transportation and discussed the <br /> 13 Smart Growth Initiative and the City's work with the Met Council which they applauded. <br /> 14 Hodson added that approximately 600 people attended the recent Pancake Breakfast and <br /> 15 commended Jay Hartman on a job well done in planning the event. Hodson noted that the Chili <br /> Cook-Off will be held on Saturday, February 17. <br /> 17 Horst reported that he attended an Experienced Leaders Conference with a focus on ethical <br /> 18 decision-making in government on January 26-27 in Grand Rapids where case studies on <br /> 19 affordable housing were presented. He added that he attended a Legislative Conference which <br /> 20 included the issue of tax increment financing for the future. Horst also attended a Chamber Board <br /> 21 of Directors meeting last week; he is serving his tenth year on the Chamber Board of Directors, <br /> 22 his term will soon be expiring, and he will continue to attend meetings as an adviser. <br /> 23 Horst also mentioned the Chili Cook-Off at City Hall on Saturday, February 17, with tickets <br /> 24 available at the door. <br /> 25 Horst noted that annual Chamber of Commerce meeting will be held in April where Villager and <br /> 26 Business of the Year will be selected. Anyone who would like to nominate candidates should <br /> 27 contact George Wagner. <br /> 28 Thuesen reported that he also attended the Legislative Conference which he found to be very <br /> 29 information including the overview of the Governor's proposed budget. He attended a meeting at <br /> 30 Wilshire Park for parents to express their views on the proposed budget for education. Thuesen <br /> 31 added that it is important for all residents to pay attention to these education issues as they <br /> 32 impact our schools and the education of our youth for the future. <br /> 10 <br />
