City Council Study Session Meeting Minutes
• June 12, 2001
Page 10
Gehr-a, who conducted the last intergenerational meeting for them a few years ago.
Councilmember Sparks indicated that the Council needed to determine what kind of information
they wanted to gather at the Dialogue, and the types of questions that would help them best
achieve those answers.

Mornson asked if there was any role that the staff were expected to play. Councilmember Sparks
indicated there was no formal role.

Councilmember Thuesen said that he would like to see what the objectives would be for the
Intergenerational Dialogue, in order to see if the City should financially support it.
Councilmember Sparks referred to a newspaper article that stated that Intergenerational Dialogue
is a way to accomplish increased community connectedness.
Councilmember Thuesen stated that increased community connectedness was not a significant
enough objective to him. Councilmember Sparks stated she thought it was a very important role
for the City to take on.
Mayor Cavanaugh stated that he was uncertain of what the product would be from an
•17 Intergenerational Dialogue session. He suggested that they spend some time with Mr. Prosser
and Ms. Gehrz in order to determine what they are looking for the community to decide, or
accomplish.
Councilmember Sparks pointed out to Councilmember Thuesen that he, along with the rest of the
Council, adopted a goal to build a sense of community by involving the City's diverse groups in
the on-going development of the City. She added that the Intergenerational Dialogue was one
way to accomplish that. Councilmember Thuesen responded that things do not always stay the
same, and that there was no formal voting on the adoption of the City's Goal, and that the City
needs to review these goals over time.
Councilmember Sparks reviewed the six Action Steps under the Goal for the City of St. Anthony
that had been established by the Council back in January of 2001.
Mayor Cavanaugh suggested that they progress the goal, and add Mr. Prosser to the equation.
Councilmember Sparks suggested that they call the meeting a Town Meeting, and that they
determine what they would like to garner from the meeting.
IX. INFORMATION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS.
Councilmember Thuesen commended Mike Morrison on the way he handled the sudden death of
a liquor store employee.
•34 Councilmember Horst received confirmation from Morrison that the fireworks display was in the
Budget.

The Council concluded that the July 10, 2001 Study Session be canceled.
