g <br /> C. Accidents at Intersections <br /> Preventable if: <br /> 1. Driver failed to control speed so that he/she could stop within available • <br /> sight distance. <br /> 2. Driver failed to check cross traffic and wait for it to clear before entering <br /> intersection. <br /> 3. Driver pulled out from side street in face of oncoming traffic. <br /> 4. Driver collided with person, vehicle or object while making right or left turn. <br /> 5. Driver collided with vehicle making turn in front of him/her. <br /> 6. Driver failed to stop vehicle at controlled intersection before proceeding <br /> through against red light when on Code 3 run. <br /> D. Backing Accidents <br /> Preventable if: <br /> 1. Driver backed up when better planning -would have avoided accident. <br /> 2. Driver backed into traffic stream when such backing could have been <br /> avoided. <br /> 3. Driver failed to get out of vehicle and check proposed path of backward <br /> travel. <br /> 4. Driver depended solely on mirrors when it was practicable to look back. <br /> 5. Driver failed to sound horn while backing. <br /> 6. Driver failed to check behind vehicle parked at curb before attempting to <br /> leave parking space. <br /> 7. Driver relied solely on partner or other guide to aid in backing or crew <br /> member fails to alight from vehicle to guide backing process. <br /> 8. Driver backed from blind side when a sight-side approach could have been <br /> made. <br /> 9. Driver failed to request partner assistance when it would have been <br /> practical to do so. <br /> E. Sideswipe and Head-On Collisions <br /> Preventable if: <br /> 1. Driver was not entirely in proper lane of travel. <br /> 2. Driver did not pull to his right and slow down to stop for vehicle <br /> encroaching on his lane of travel when such action could have been taken <br /> without additional danger. <br /> CITY OF ST.
