3. Defective hose must be repaired or replaced. <br /> 4. If parallel lengths of oxygen and acetylene hose are taped to avoid tangling, <br /> • not more that four (4) inches of every twelve (12) inches length may be <br /> covered with tape. <br /> C. Arc Welding: <br /> 1. Operators and maintenance personnel must have proper instruction and be <br /> qualified. <br /> 2. Open circuit (no load) voltages must not exceed OSHA specifications. <br /> 3. Installation must conform to the requirements of the National Electrical Code <br /> and 1910.252 Fed.Reg. <br /> 4. Electrode holders not in use must be placed so that they cannot make <br /> electrical contact with people, conducting objects or fuel or compressed <br /> gas. <br /> 5. The electrode cable should not be coiled or looped about the operator, and <br /> cables must not have splices within ten (10) feet of the holder. <br /> 6. Cables with damaged insulation or exposed conductors must be replaced. <br /> • 7. Adequate grounding is required to comply with OSHA specifications.. <br /> 8. Employees must receive adequate training as detailed in 1910.252 Fed.Reg. <br /> D. Ventilation: adequate ventilation must be provided that is suitable for the <br /> operation being performed. <br /> E. Fire prevention and protection: <br /> 1. If the object to be welded cannot be moved, all movable fire hazards in the <br /> vicinity must be moved. If this cannot be done, guards must be used to <br /> confine heat and sparks, etc. <br /> 2. Suitable fire extinguishing equipment must be readily available. <br /> 3.
