a
CITY OF C10. ANTHONY
PLANNING BOARD MINUTES
November 19,1974
The meeting was called to order by Chairman McGinn at 7:30 P.M.
The following were present for roll call: Johnson, Marks, Letourneau, McGinn
and Bowerman.
Also present: Jim Fornell, Administrative Assistant
Absent: Kronk and Hiebel
The minutes of the October 15, 1974 Planning Board meeting were approved.
The Public Hearing on the Bernu request for a sign variance for a free standing
sign in the St. Anthony Office Park was opened by Chairman McGinn at 7:32 P.M.
Mr. Rod Bernu of the Bernu Construction Company, 7420 Unity Avenue North, showed
a colored sketch of the 4--1/2 ft. x 10 ft. free standing sign of rough cedar for
which he was requesting a sign variance to place in the rock garden in front of
the office building his company is erecting in the office park. He said the two
way sign would only identify the building as the Midwest Professional Building
and give its address and would not include tenants' names which would be listed
instead on two plaques on each side of the entrance on the exterior of the
building.
Mr. Fornell advised that the sign and the plaques would be within the signage
limits of the City sign ordinance. Mr. Bernu said his company's plans for
temporary signs indicating rental availability were not certain at the moment
and he did not know if they would be using a roof- top sign for that purpose.
The public hearing closed at 7:40 P.M.
Mr. Marks told how he felt the request for a variance met all three conditions
governing the granting of sign variances and made the following motion:
Motion by Mr. Marks and seconded by Mr. Bowerman to recommend a sign variance be
granted to the Bernu Construction Company to erect a free standing sign, as
presented, in front of the Midwest Professional Building in the St. Anthony Office
Park.
Motion carried.
Mr. Hiebel arrived at 7:45 P.M.
Mr. Gordon Hedlund presented the plans drawn up for him by the Ellerbe Company
which represented his concept of the use for Lots 11 through 16, Block 6, Mounds
View Acres, Second Addition, which he owns. These included a three story office
building, possibly a condominium type, with a smaller office building, possibly
a dental office, and a Country Kitchen restaurant to the South. He said he had
not included in this "master plan" the little green house at 3909 Silver Lake
Road which he visualized as converting to perhaps a real estate office to retain
the residential nature of the area. All the property he owns above this tract on
• Penrod Lane he anticipated would be developed as 80 x 150 ft. single family
residential lots.
