Planning Commission Meeting Minutes <br /> April 19, 2005 <br /> Page 11 <br /> 1 Ms. Moore-Sykes noted that one of the concerns stated had to do with the potential for <br /> 2 fire hazards if they allow dry plantings to close to a structure. She stated that she could <br /> 3 provide more information on this subject noting that some plantings require fire to help <br /> 4 with future growth patterns. She indicated that the ordinance does include a list of <br /> 5 plants considered to be undesirable adding that the list could be improved and clarified. <br /> 6 <br /> 7 Chair Stromgren agreed and suggested that Staff compile information on the varieties <br /> 8 of prairie grasses. He suggested including an educational component for the Fire <br /> 9 Department. <br /> 10 <br /> 11 Ms. Moore-Sykes stated that Staff could begin putting together some of the language <br /> 12 and would also have the City Attorney review as they develop the draft. <br /> 13 <br /> 14 10.2 Update on City Redevelopment Projects. <br /> 15 <br /> 16 Ms. Moore-Sykes provided Commission with an update of the City redevelopment <br /> 17 projects. She stated that the most discussed project is Silver Lake Village noting that <br /> 18 an update would be included in the upcoming City newsletter. She stated that Wendy's <br /> 19 and Papa Murphy's are open and Wal-Mart had their grand opening in March. Cold <br /> 20 Stone Creamery and Vic's Hair Styling are expected to open in April. She stated that <br /> 21 City Staff and City Council members were invited to the Appleby's training session held <br /> 22 last Saturday for the cooks and wait staff. She stated that they had a great opening <br /> 23 noting that they incorporated pieces of St. Anthony history and exhibits within the <br /> 24 restaurant. <br /> 25 <br /> 26 Chair Stromgren asked if there is an update on occupancy numbers for the housing in <br /> 27 the Silver Lake Project. Ms. Moore-Sykes explained that occupancy would be done in <br /> 28 stages with some scheduled to open this fall and others early next year. She stated <br /> 29 that the recruiting process for renters and buyers for the residential units was very <br /> 30 successful. She stated that several purchase agreements have been signed and <br /> 31 approximately twenty rental units have been leased. <br /> 32 <br /> 33 10.3 Code Enforcement Report <br /> 34 <br /> 35 Ms. Moore-Sykes stated that the Fire Chief expressed his regrets for not being able to <br /> 36 attend tonight's meeting. She stated that the Fire Chief and Rick Lundeen, Official <br /> 37 Housing Code Staff member would be present at the May 17th Planning Commission <br /> 38 meeting to introduce themselves to the Commission and provide an update on the <br /> 39 Code Enforcement Report. <br /> 40 <br /> 41 XI. ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> 42 11.1 Land Use Planning Workshops <br /> 43 <br /> 44 Ms. Moore-Sykes stated that seats are still available. She stated that Commissioner <br /> 45 Galyon attended the Back to the Basics seminar in St. Paul and thought it was an <br /> 46 excellent seminar. Two staff members are also scheduled to attend this seminar. She <br />
